Malaysian authorities urge the public, particularly aspiring Hajj pilgrims, to exercise caution against fraudulent visa packages as the Hajj season approaches.

Malaysian authorities have issued a warning to the public, particularly those planning to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, against fraudulent visa packages, particularly as the Hajj season approaches. Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, Director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) Bukit Aman, stated that unscrupulous individuals exploit the enthusiasm of Malaysians to undertake the Hajj by offering illegitimate visas.

\ Approximately three months from now, the Hajj season for the year 1446 Hijri or 2025 Gregorian will commence. During this period, police anticipate attempts at fraud involving Hajj furada or mujamalah visas, similar to previous occurrences. According to Ramli, records show that 44 cases of Hajj and Umrah scams were investigated throughout 2024, resulting in losses totaling RM890,810. Furthermore, 17 cases have been reported as of February 2nd, 2024, with losses reaching RM364,620 within a five-week span. \ Ramli explained that furada and mujamalah visas are issued by the Saudi Arabian government to specific individuals and are not included in Malaysia's official Hajj quota. These visas are highly limited, expensive, and only issued at the last minute, subject to the Saudi Arabian government's decisions based on the prevailing circumstances. This uncertainty creates opportunities for fraud syndicates to profit by offering non-existent packages. Therefore, he advises the public to only deal with legitimate agencies, such as the Lembaga Tabung Haji, to avoid becoming victims of scams. He emphasized the importance of obtaining visas beforehand to prevent situations where pilgrims are stranded at KLIA waiting for flights that never exist.
