The Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) oral exam in flood-affected states saw a high attendance rate, with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek praising students' resilience in the face of adversity.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek praised students who took the Malay Language Oral Examination for the Malaysian Certificate of Education ( SPM ) in flood-affected states, describing them as resilient after a high attendance rate of 97.49 percent. She acknowledged that although it was a difficult decision, the examination proceeded after receiving reports from officials and considering all safety factors.
'The attendance rate for SPM candidates for the Malay Language Oral Examination in three of the most affected states reached 97.54 percent in Kelantan, 98.01 percent in Terengganu, and 97.94 percent in Kedah,' she said. 'Our children are actually more resilient than we imagine. I wasn't alone in that decision (to not postpone), we held multiple sessions and discussions, and I was also with the Kelantan Education Exco... I was in Kelantan all day,' she said. She said this during the monthly KPM gathering today regarding the issue, which had previously been widely discussed and sparked controversy among some who were dissatisfied with the KPM's decision. However, Fadhlina stressed that the decision to proceed with the oral examination was not because KPM lacked empathy for SPM candidates. During her recent post-flood visit to Terengganu, she received positive feedback from affected students. 'I asked what they felt, if they were angry at me for continuing the examination. (Students replied), 'No, not a single bit angry, but YB, I want to share, I took a boat for four hours and had a great time, YB.' This shows that what they went through has added to their maturity and comfort in interacting with us,' she said
