Over RM260 million have been lost to commercial crimes in Malaysia so far this year, according to the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID). 5,153 cases have been recorded, a 26% increase compared to last year, but losses have decreased by 7%. Online scams account for 87.9% of cases with RM195.3 million lost, mainly through telecommunication scams.

KUALA LUMPUR: Over RM260mil have been lost to commercial crimes so far this year, says Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf director said as of Feb 2, a total of 5,153 cases have been recorded.

"While it showed a 26% increase compared to 4,088 cases during the same period last year, the amount of losses have lessened some 7% compared to RM279.8mil ," he said when contacted on Friday ."4,532 online scams have been recorded this year, which is 87.9% of total commercial crime cases. "The number of losses have reached RM195.3mil .Of the online scams, telecommunication scams recorded the most number of cases with 1,988 cases recorded involving RM49.6mil in losses, Comm Ramli said.

"This is followed by purchase scams ., investment scams , loan scams , e-commerce scams and love scams .The CCID has nabbed 2,523 individuals through 2,443 operations nationwide, he said.Malaysia committed to export controls, denies AI chip smuggling claims to China
