A 50-year-old motorcyclist was arrested in Penang, Malaysia, for verbally abusing authorities during a special operation focused on road safety for the Chinese New Year.
A 50-year-old motorcyclist was arrested by the police last night for allegedly verbally abusing Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers and traffic police during a special operation at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza. The operation was conducted in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations. The man, who was riding with his Indonesian girlfriend, was initially fined by the JPJ for riding with an expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) and without insurance.
Upon being informed that his motorcycle would be impounded due to these offences, he became extremely agitated and aggressive, creating a disturbance. He directed his anger towards the JPJ personnel and traffic police officers, shouting profanities and using abusive language. Despite attempts by the officers and his girlfriend to de-escalate the situation, he continued his unruly behavior for over half an hour before police finally apprehended him and took him to the station for further action.State JPJ director, Zulkifly Ismail, stated that the man was detained for obstructing a civil servant from carrying out their duties. He added that the JPJ believes the public should have a better understanding of enforcement duties and refrain from exceeding acceptable limits. He emphasized that the JPJ's goal is not to find fault or punish but to uphold the common good. Earlier, during the operation, which ran from 8.30 pm to midnight, a total of 1,083 vehicles were inspected, with action taken against 211 of them. A total of 391 summons notices were issued for various offences. Since the operation began on January 20 and continued until yesterday (February 9), authorities inspected 31,122 vehicles and issued 4,105 notices to motorcyclists, vehicle drivers, and other road users for non-compliance with regulations
