Eleven Indonesian citizens in Japan are facing murder charges after the death of a fellow countryman in Gunma prefecture. The incident is under investigation, and the Indonesian Embassy is providing legal assistance to the suspects.

Eleven Indonesia n citizens residing in Japan have been identified as suspects in the murder of another Indonesia n national in Gunma prefecture. The Isesaki Police apprehended the 11 individuals and subsequently charged them with both murder and visa overstay .

Judha Nugraha, director for citizen protection at the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, stated that the Isesaki Police are actively investigating the case, while the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo is closely monitoring the situation and providing legal assistance to the detainees. The victim, known only by the initial 'A,' was fatally stabbed on November 3, 2024. Three other Indonesian citizens sustained injuries during the incident and received medical treatment at a hospital. According to the Foreign Ministry, all victims were Indonesian nationals who had overstayed their visas and tragically fell prey to a violent robbery perpetrated by their fellow countrymen. This incident in Isesaki is one of several recent public disturbances involving Indonesian citizens in Japan. Previously, the Foreign Ministry investigated allegations that a group of Indonesian migrant workers had formed a gang and caused disturbances in Osaka. This investigation was initiated after a series of videos circulating on social media depicted a group, purportedly composed of Indonesian men, engaging in disruptive behavior. One video showcased an individual riding a bicycle near a shopping center displaying a flag bearing the alleged name of the group, 'Pemulih Harga Diri' (restorer of pride). Both the Indonesian Foreign Ministry in Jakarta and the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo have issued appeals to Indonesians residing in Japan to abide by local norms and regulations in order to uphold Indonesia's reputation on the global stage. They have also emphasized that foreign nationals who violate Japanese laws will be subject to Japanese jurisdiction and the country's legal proceedings
