Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark has revealed the company's future plans, emphasizing a shift towards electrification while acknowledging the continued appeal of iconic combustion engine models. The British luxury automaker aims to introduce its first fully electric vehicle (EV) by 2028, with hybrid versions gradually joining the lineup over the next decade.
Hallmark stated that the brand intends to continue producing models with V12 engines until 2028, potentially extending this to 2030 through limited production runs. However, the brand will focus on reducing its dependence on ICE powertrains, with EVs projected to comprise 15% of its sales by 2035.Hallmark acknowledged the significant role of legislation in shaping the company's production timelines. He explained that while the current target for phasing out V12 engines is 2028, the brand could potentially secure exemptions for low-volume production, allowing it to continue manufacturing these models in smaller numbers until 2030. He highlighted the possibility of importing 150 to 300 V12-powered vehicles into the United States annually and applying for derogation based on low-volume vehicle regulations. Similar options are available in Europe, with further flexibility for single vehicle type approval.Beyond electrification, Aston Martin is exploring various avenues to enhance its model range. Hallmark mentioned plans to reintroduce manual transmissions to certain models, catering to enthusiasts who value the engaging driving experience offered by row-your-own gearboxes. The brand is also considering reviving classic racing models for road use, tapping into the heritage and performance legacy associated with these iconic vehicles. Furthermore, Hallmark indicated that Aston Martin would introduce new trim packages and models with upgraded suspension tunes and increased power output, aiming to provide a wider spectrum of options to its discerning clientele.
