The Ipoh City Council is moving forward with plans for a comprehensive electric bus service, following the success of Taiping's heritage trail electric bus. The project is still in its early stages, with details like fare structure, routes, and management yet to be finalized. The new service will be more extensive than Taiping's and is expected to boost the construction of more electric charging stations in Ipoh.

The Ipoh City Council is planning a more comprehensive electric bus service in Ipoh , following the success of Taiping's electric bus service for its heritage trail. Perak local government committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching confirmed the plans, stating that they are still in the preliminary stages. Many details, such as fare structure, routes, and management, are yet to be finalized. Unlike Taiping's service, which operates on an 11.

5km heritage trail route, Ipoh's electric bus service is expected to be more extensive. Ng explained that while Ipoh might not be the first city in the state to introduce electric buses, their service is planned for a larger scale. The introduction of these electric shuttle buses is anticipated to stimulate the construction of more electric charging stations in the city, further promoting Ipoh's goal of becoming an electric-vehicle (EV) friendly environment. The plans for an electric shuttle bus service align with the upcoming construction of The Ipoh Sentral, a modern transportation hub situated next to the city's iconic railway station. This transit-oriented development (TOD) project, divided into two phases, is projected to commence in six months and will take 20 years to complete. The Ipoh Sentral aims to integrate various public transportations, including rail and bus services, with mixed-use developments encompassing housing, business, and recreational areas. Transport Minister Anthony Loke believes this project has the potential to transform Ipoh's urban landscape, making it more efficient, pedestrian-friendly, and sustainable. He posits that the concept will not only decrease reliance on private vehicles but also contribute to lowering carbon emissions, aligning with the country's climate change agenda.Currently, the Ipoh City Council is conducting a public survey to gather feedback on transitioning from existing bus services to an electric shuttle bus service. The questionnaire is available in three languages and takes approximately three minutes to complete. It ends on February 9th. Despite the higher initial cost of electric vehicles, including buses, compared to petrol-fuelled counterparts, reports indicate that bus companies could significantly reduce operational costs by switching to electric buses. Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) projects savings of up to 30 percent in maintenance costs and over 50 percent in energy costs with the full adoption of electric vehicles by 2037. This projection is based on nearly a decade of operating data from 15 electric buses on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service along the Sunway Route, which demonstrated lower operational costs
