Baltej Singh Dhillon, the first Malaysian-born RCMP officer, has been appointed as a Senator in Canada. He is also the first Sikh with a turban to serve as an RCMP officer. His appointment is seen as a symbol of support for diversity and inclusion in Canada.
PETALING JAYA: Baltej Singh Dhillon yang mencipta sejarah apabila menjadi kelahiran Malaysia pertama yang berkhidmat sebagai pegawai di Polis Diraja Kanada dilantik sebagai Senator di Kanada.
Ini kerana beliau merupakan salah seorang anggota polis yang mencipta sejarah dengan berpegang teguh kepada tradisi Sikh apabila tetap memakai serban dan berjanggut semasa bertugas meskipun menghadapi tentangan hebat ketika diterima masuk ke RCMP pada tahun 1990. “Dalam masa yang tidak menentu ini, adalah penting untuk kita bersatu sebagai sebuah negara untuk menghadapi cabaran di hadapan kita,” katanya.
