Two mechanics charged with smuggling four migrants in Tumpat

High Court dismisses appeal by ex-Bersatu Youth chief to retrieve two seized luxury cars, other valuables PASIR MAS: Two mechanics were arraigned in the Sessions Court here on Monday on charges of smuggling three Chinese nationals and a Myanmar national last week.

The accused, Mohd Fairul Mu'min Abd Rahim, 45, and Mohd Azman Ismail, 40, were charged before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah, reported Sinar Harian.According to the charge, they are accused of jointly smuggling the four men, aged 20 to 27, in Lorong Kampung Kok Serai, Kampung Tujuh, Tumpat, at 5.05pm on Jan 21. The offence is framed under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, punishable under the same section, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.In addition, all conveyances, movable property, record books, reports or documents seized in connection with the case may be forfeited in accordance with Section 36 of the same Act. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aisyha Nailah Harizan, while both accused were unrepresented.No bail was granted as the offence is non-bailable.
