Homicide detectives are investigating how two teens on the run ended up with food and basic camping supplies when they were arrested more than 130 kilometres from where they allegedly fatally stabbed one of their mothers.
A police source confirmed two boys connected to the crime scene, aged 14 and 15, were found with some food and basic camping supplies, and at least one was dressed in camouflage clothing, when they were arrested near Learmonth, north of Ballarat, on Thursday afternoon.Officers are now trying to piece together exactly where the school friends travelled to in the victim’s white Toyota RAV4 before it was later found in St Kilda. The two were arrested about 15 hours after the stabbing.
Her 13-year-old son — the brother of the 15-year-old teen — who was home at the time escaped physical injury and ran to a nearby house to raise the alarm. “We are in shock and deeply saddened and our thoughts and sympathies continue to be with her family, friends and colleagues.”Detectives returned to the crime scene on Friday, where they removed bags of evidence and secured the home. A yellow budgerigar was also taken away.
