PETALING JAYA: The difficulties in hiring foreign workers are pushing employers to the brink, with many complaining that they could picket as a last resort.
Malaysian Indian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association president Ayoob Khan Muhamad Yakub said applications for the Foreign Workers Integrated Management System were complicated and were rejected due to minor mistakes in the forms.
“Different states seem to have different rules, there doesn’t seem to be a standardised way, making it more complicated. Ayoob, however, said picketing would only be a last resort as many members and other employers in the service industry were growing frustrated with the difficulties in obtaining foreign labour.
“They are asking us the number of customers we can accommodate, the space of the restaurant, types of kitchen, etc. Most of our members are focused on their business, they don’t have clerks or others to help with such paperwork, so it is a hassle,” he said.
