A 23-year-old unemployed man, Afif Jazimin Jamaluddin, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Sessions Court for setting five motorcycles on fire between December 2024 and January 2025.

A 23-year-old unemployed man, Afif Jazimin Jamaluddin, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to three counts of mischief by fire. The offences involved the arson of five motorcycles between December of last year and early January of this year. Afif Jazimin admitted to setting a Honda EX5 motorcycle ablaze at a house in Kampung Jerai at 3:15 am on December 27, 2024.

He also confessed to torching a Modenas Kriss motorcycle, a Honda EX5, and an SM Sport at a house in Kampung Pisang, Kupang, near the city, at 3:30 am on December 24, 2024. Furthermore, he admitted to setting a Modenas Kriss motorcycle on fire at a house in Kampung Hangus, Kupang, at 3:30 am on January 2, this year.All charges were brought under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine. Deputy public prosecutor Amirul Halimi Md Salleh represented the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Intan Nursyafina Baharudin. Judge Najwa Che Mat sentenced Afif Jazimin to four years in prison for each charge, starting from the date of his arrest on January 20, with the sentences to run consecutively. The accused was initially detained by the police to assist in the investigation into a series of fires that broke out at nine houses in Kupang, from mid-December to early January. The fires resulted in significant damage, destroying two vehicles and 18 motorcycles, with total losses estimated at RM770,000
