Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang emphasized the enduring relevance of Tunku Abdul Rahman’s message of unity in diversity during the 59th anniversary of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (YTAR). He highlighted Tunku Abdul Rahman's belief in national unity as the foundation for a prosperous and secure Malaysia, where people from diverse backgrounds could coexist harmoniously. The Minister also announced the opening of applications for the Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship, which aims to support young Malaysians pursuing higher education.

The message of unity in diversity championed by Malaysia's first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj remains as relevant today as it was then, according to Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. He said the late Tunku Abdul Rahman , better known as the Father of Independence, believed national unity was the cornerstone of a safe and prosperous nation.

'He saw Malaysia as a homeland for people from diverse backgrounds, regardless of race, religion or heritage, who could coexist and respect each other. Tomorrow, we also commemorate the 122nd anniversary of the birth of Allahyarham, a figure whose vision, sacrifice and leadership shaped the foundation of the Malaysia that we love. 'His aspirations went beyond the fight for independence or his service as our first Prime Minister. It continues to inspire and guide us in our efforts to achieve national unity and progress,' he said in his speech at the 59th Anniversary of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (YTAR) here today. Aaron said YTAR, established as a tribute to Tunku Abdul Rahman, is a testament to his unwavering commitment to education, unity and nation-building. On the occasion of Tunku Abdul Rahman's 122nd birthday, Aaron, who is also YTAR chairman, announced that applications for the Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship would be open from tomorrow until April 8, for Malaysian citizens who aspire to pursue or are currently pursuing their Bachelor's Degree at public or private universities in various fields. 'The scholarship covers nine types of allowances and a two-year leadership development program to produce young leaders. 'Through the Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship program, corporate partners have transformed scholarship giving, making it more fair and comprehensive,' he said. He said Grab Malaysia, through the GrabScholar program in collaboration with YTAR, will sponsor six scholarships in 2024 and another six in 2025. Aaron also welcomed new private university partners who have joined YTAR's mission through tuition fee sponsorships in the form of contributions, including International Medical University (IMU), Sunway Education Group, Tunku Abdul Rahman University, and MSU Foundation. He said since 2020, YTAR has established partnerships through memoranda of understanding (MoUs), securing commitments worth over RM22 million, comprising RM5.8 million in cash and RM16.5 million in tuition fee exemptions from universities. He said the Closing The Gap program, which focuses on access to higher education and success guidance, has been realized through the sponsorship of various cohorts of the OSK Foundation. 'I am also pleased to announce that CIMB Foundation will be the sponsor of the Closing The Gap program for 2025. 'This partnership will help students in the Klang Valley, especially those from the People's Housing Project (PPR) community. This program is also part of the Santuni MADANI initiative, which is a testament to the cooperation between CIMB Foundation and YTAR,' he said. Since its establishment in 1966, YTAR has empowered 9,500 Malaysian youth through scholarships, financial assistance and development programs
