Tenaga Nasional Berhad ( TNB ) is advancing Malaysia's prominent role in the global renewable energy (RE) market with the inauguration of the 102-megawatt (MW) Eastfield and Bunkers Hill solar farms in the United Kingdom. The national utility corporation boasts a comprehensive RE portfolio, predominantly encompassing solar and wind energy generation assets, totaling 1.3 gigawatts (GW) in operation and development across the UK and Ireland. It also has 3.2 GW in Peninsular Malaysia, including 2.
5 GW of large hydro. Bunkers Hill, situated in Rotherwick, boasts a capacity of 66.7 megawatts peak (MWp), while Eastfield, located in Harbury, generates 35 MWp. These two cutting-edge solar farms collectively deliver 102 MW, underscoring Malaysia's capabilities in propelling sustainable energy solutions on a global scale.The projects are underpinned by a 15-year Contract-for-Difference (CfD) scheme secured in July 2022. This ensures revenue stability through fixed pricing for RE generation, safeguarding investors from market fluctuations. TNB actively owns, develops, and operates RE assets across the UK and Ireland, encompassing solar, onshore, offshore wind, and battery projects. Upon achieving commercial operation date (COD), these two newly completed greenfield solar development projects will augment TNB's total generation capacity in the UK to 908 MW. Speaking at the event, TNB president/chief executive officer Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan expressed pride in the company's contributions to the RE sector.
