Selangor to Prioritize High-Value Agriculture in Food Security Plan

The Selangor Agricultural Transformation Plan (PeTA) will focus on high-value crops like melons, vanilla, and onions in its next phase to boost farmers' income and food security

The Selangor Agricultural Transformation Plan (PeTA), implemented to ensure food security , will prioritize modern and high-value agriculture projects next year. State infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim said the plan, currently in the final phase of its first stage, is focused on agricultural products with strong market demand to boost farmers’ income.

“The state will focus on high-value agricultural products such as melons, vanilla and onions next year – all of which have shown strong market demand.“So far, Phase I of PeTA has been a success and we will build on this achievement,” he said after presenting aid for the Urban Farming and Community Garden programme at Kampung Pandan Dalam, Ampang Jaya.Izham said Selangor has over 200 registered community gardens. A total of RM450,000 was allocated to 30 community gardens and six local councils where RM50,000 was given to each council while community garden representative received RM5,000 each. Izham said Phase II of PeTA, beginning in 2026, would focus on animal husbandry and seed development.“This effort will ensure food supply continuity,” he said.Izham said that the state would focus on overcoming those issues.The initiative also aligns with the National Food Security Policy Action Plan 2021–2025 to increase agricultural output
