Repair work on roads damaged by coastal erosion in Batu Rakit beach in Kuala Nerus is expected to be carried out soon after the Northeast Monsoon (NEM) ends in March.
Repair work on some roads damaged by coastal erosion in Batu Rakit beach in Kuala Nerus is expected to be carried out soon after the Northeast Monsoon (NEM) ends in March. The state infrastructure, utilities and rural development committee chairman, Hanafiah Mat, said the state government is awaiting sufficient allocation from the federal government for the repair project.
'There are indeed some roads damaged by coastal erosion which is getting increasingly critical at several locations at this time. For now, the damaged routes have been closed and only opened for vehicles,' he said today. 'Insya-Allah after the NEM ends, the repair work on this road damage will be carried out immediately,' he added. Coastal erosion in several villages in Batu Rakit beach has been reported to be increasingly critical, with some road structures also being swept away by waves since last week. Resident, Mohd Ikmal Ahmad Hisyam, 38, said the collapse has resulted in dozens of traders losing their livelihood as their stalls located in the area were also affected. 'Every Friday to Sunday evening, this coastal area is a popular spot for picnics and sightseeing. Many villagers earn their living by selling snacks here but have to relocate to other coastal areas after the erosion became severe,' he said.
