PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has urged Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reintroduce tax relief for National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) depositors as it will help parents who invest in their children's education.
The Ayer Hitam MP was responding to Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim's statement on Monday that the government will no longer be providing tax relief worth up to RM8,000 per year for SSPN depositors.
"The Finance Minister is encouraged to reintroduce this tax relief to help parents cover the financial costs of their children's education. "There is still time to reintroduce it as the financial assessment year only begins early next year and there are nine months left for SSPN users to save up their earnings in their account," he said.
Sim had said the decision to discontinue SSPN tax relief was because the government had already introduced other tax exemptions and deductions under the revised Budget 2023.
