Is this now-viral claim true?
Recently, it was claimed that a person posed as a policeman to steal a car in Kuala Lumpur. Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak confirmed this, saying in a statement that the individual involved has since been arrested.
Speaking about the theft, he said that a 26-year-old car salesman had reported the crime and added that the person who stole the car posed as a potential buyer and asked to test drive a car. "The complainant reported that the customer was dressed in police uniform. When they stopped at a petrol station in Pandan Jaya, the suspect asked the complainant to buy a top-up, and this is when the suspect fled with the vehicle," said ACP Mohamad Farouk.
He said that following the report, three men and a woman aged from 30 to 40 were arrested in a series of raids in Selayang in Selangor and Alor Setar and Jitra in Kedah. "Two of the suspects are unemployed, one works at a workshop and another is a hawker," said ACP Mohamad Farouk, adding that a police uniform was among the items seized.
