Proton, Malaysia's national car company, has commenced construction of a RM82 million electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant at the AHTV Automotive High-Tech Valley in Tanjung Malim. The plant's first phase is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with an initial production capacity of 20,000 units annually. Proton aims to begin local EV production by the end of 2025, marking a significant step in Malaysia's automotive industry transition towards electric mobility.

“Sasaran kami adalah untuk memulakan pengeluaran model EV tempatan menjelang akhir 2025, seiring dengan perpindahan penuh operasi pembuatan Proton ke Tanjung Malim dan AHTV. “Walaupun beroperasi dengan teknologi pengeluaran pintar kilang baharu ini dijangka mewujudkan lebih 200 peluang pekerjaan baharu dalam sektor perindustrian EV untuk komuniti tempatan.
Tambah beliau, pengeluaran di kilang itu akan tertumpu kepada Proton e.MAS 7 serta model kenderaan tenaga baharu lain yang akan diperkenalkan pada masa hadapan.
