Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) has begun construction of its first electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in the Automotive High Technology Valley (AHTV) with an investment of RM82 million. The first phase of the plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with an initial production capacity of 20,000 units per year. The new plant will produce various models based on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform, starting with the Proton e.MAS 7, Proton's first EV model. It also marks a significant leap in Proton's ability to assemble various models, ranging from pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to plug-in hybrids and long-range EVs. Proton expects to create over 200 new jobs in the EV industry and technical services for the local community.

Ia juga menandakan lonjakan besar dalam keupayaan Proton untuk memasang pelbagai model, daripada kenderaan elektrik bateri tulen hingga ke plug-in hybrid dan EV penjana jarak jauh, kata Jauhari.
Proton menjangkakan lebih 200 pekerjaan baharu dapat diwujudkan dalam perindustrian EV dan perkhidmatan teknikal untuk komuniti tempatan meskipun kilang baharu ini menggunakan operasi pengeluaran pintar.
