Authorities in Malaysia are investigating a non-governmental organization (NGO) after members were seen wearing uniforms resembling those of uniformed bodies during an event.
PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded statements from three individuals in connection with members of a non-governmental organization (NGO) wearing uniforms similar to those of a uniformed body during an event. Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said police have called up the three individuals to assist with the ongoing investigation. 'We expect to wrap up the investigation by next week,' he said when contacted on Saturday (Jan 4).
Police are also conducting further checks with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as well as the Registrar of Societies (ROS), he said. 'We will refer the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor once the investigation is completed,' he said. It was reported that police are investigating an NGO whose members wore clothes resembling uniforms of uniformed bodies. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had said that police were notified of the incident via a video showing the event. The video showed several individuals wearing clothes resembling official ceremonial uniforms and other attire. “The video that has gone viral could also bring confusion to the public that might assume that wearing these uniforms were not an offence,” he said.
