Police auxiliary liquor inspectors have been removed from suburban bottle shops in Alice Springs.The Northern Territory government has defended its abrupt removal of police auxiliary liquor inspectors from Alice Springs bottle shops, despite claims it has unleashed "chaos" at local liquor outlets.PALIs have the power to intervene and stop takeaway alcohol sales at bottle shops across the NT while checking patrons' ID and whether they have a place to drink.

"There are PALIs, there are constables, there are unmarked secondary supply policing operations occurring right now in Alice Springs and that will continue right through to June," he said.Alice Springs local Alecia Buchanan said she was at the East Side IGA on Saturday night when staff were forced to close the shop's doors after a customer was "extremely aggressive" towards a security guard.
