NT Country Liberal Party MLA Joshua Burgoyne has pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving following a crash in Alice Springs last year.
Mr Burgoyne will return to Alice Springs for a funeral tomorrow and will not be present when parliament resumes this week.
Mr Burgoyne stopped at the intersection of Norris Bell Avenue and the Stuart Highway before edging out, striking the driver's side of an oncoming car. His lawyer, Peter Maley, told the judge his client had no criminal record and described him as a "well respected" member of the Alice Springs community.
Joshua Burgoyne spoke to the media following his appearance at Darwin Local Court, telling reporters he would return to Alice Springs tomorrow.Judge Julie Fans said the non-conviction was "not special treatment for a politician" and was instead a reflection of his early plea of guilty and his "exemplary driving record".
