Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak admitted to questioning fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho (Jho Low) about his extravagant spending habits during his testimony in the 1MDB trial. Najib stated that he knew about Jho Low's reputation for lavish purchases of properties and artworks, but Jho Low always attributed these expenditures to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak revealed to the High Court that he questioned fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho about his widely publicized extravagant lifestyle. The former prime minister testified that he was acquainted with Low's reputation at the time, as stories circulated about his excessive spending on properties and artworks.

Media reports suggested that Low, also known as Jho Low, had invested substantial amounts in a penthouse in New York, a mansion in Beverly Hills, and pieces from renowned artists like Monet and Andy Warhol. \'He (Low) persistently claimed that he was making these purchases on behalf of Sheikh Mansour (bin Zayed Al Nahyan). That was his explanation to me,' Najib stated during cross-examination in the RM2.28 billion 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial on Thursday. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam proposed that Najib, being at the pinnacle leadership position, could have investigated the validity of Low's assertions. \Najib countered that such an inquiry would have involved another government, considering Sheikh Mansour's status as the brother of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. The former prime minister refuted the suggestion that he intentionally sidestepped uncovering the truth about Low. Najib: 'I disagree. That's precisely why I confronted him.' On October 30, Najib was instructed by the High Court to present his defense on four charges of abusing his position to acquire RM2.28 billion in gratification from 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering related to the same amount.
