NSW Premier Chris Minns is cracking down on penalties for overheight trucks that block Sydney tunnels, following months of 'intolerable' traffic gridlock caused by the incidents.
On Tuesday, two separate incidents involving overheight trucks blocked the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, causing delays for motorists during peak-hour traffic.
Sydneysiders suffered two episodes of peak-hour traffic chaos when two different overheight trucks triggered Harbour Tunnel sensors on Tuesday. Picture: Nine. “I’m particularly looking at enforcing the rules around suspending registration for trucks, taking them off the roads from three to six months, which would undeniably send a message both to the operator, the owner, the driver of the truck or even the company," he said.
“The infrastructure in the run up to the Harbour tunnel is a mess, I mean the slip lane that trucks can pull into if they’re overheight, apparently is in front of the final stop sign," he continued.
