PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and police recently carried out raids to curb the use of non-certified communications equipment.

MCMC's Head of Enforcement Division, Datuk Mohd Shafie Harun said simultaneous raids were carried out in Butterworth and Ampang after it received complaints from the public about individuals using such equipment.

"During the raids, communication equipment such as a cordless phone bought through an online platform and UHF television antenna were seized. Both cases are currently being investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, if found guilty.

Mohd Shafie advised the public to only buy and use communications equipment that carried the MCMC certification.
