PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has questioned two people who allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad, his wife Aisyah, and the sanctity of Islam on their Facebook pages.
MCMC enforcement and investigation head Datuk Mohd Shafie Harun said the duo were questioned recently, adding that investigations were carried out after the Commission received reports from the public calling for immediate action.
Shafie added that the alleged offences were related to uploading ugly and insulting statements with the intention of disturbing and hurting the feelings of others. “The second case involves a user using the ‘Fadhillah Abdulhamid’ Facebook account who uploaded content which is ugly towards Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, with very insulting words,” he said in a statement Tuesday .The two cases are being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
