A 54-year-old vegetable trader in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, lost a significant sum of money after being deceived by a fraudulent investment scheme advertised on Facebook.

A vegetable trader in Malaysia lost RM214,700 after falling victim to a fraudulent investment scheme advertised on Facebook . The 54-year-old woman from Tepoh, Kuala Nerus, encountered the investment advertisement for a company on December 11 last year. She contacted a man named 'Zulfikar' through WhatsApp to inquire about the opportunity. Zulfikar directed her to another individual, a woman, who provided further details about the investment.

Enticed by the prospect of quick and easy returns, she followed the instructions provided and proceeded with the investment. However, after a few hours, she was instructed to make additional payments in order to withdraw her supposed profits. The victim, desperate to recover her investment and the promised returns, made 42 transactions to 16 different bank accounts, utilizing both her savings and proceeds from pawning her jewelry. When the promised returns failed to materialize, she realized she had been defrauded. She promptly lodged a police report at 7:24 pm yesterday. The Kuala Terengganu district police chief, ACP Azli Mohd Noor, confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating and dishonesty. ACP Azli urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent tactics employed by investment syndicates operating online
