Hundreds of protestors gathered outside the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta, demanding justice for the recent shooting of an Indonesian migrant worker by Malaysian maritime authorities. The incident sparked outrage and renewed calls for accountability in handling border disputes.

The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta faced a protest on January 30th, involving approximately 100 demonstrators from various human rights groups and labor unions. According to reports from Sinar Harian, protesters allegedly threw eggs, covering the national emblem on the embassy's entrance, leaving a trail of shells and yolk across the premises.

They also carried banners demanding the arrest and imprisonment of Malaysian police officers involved in the shooting death of an Indonesian migrant worker. \The protest stemmed from dissatisfaction over the shooting of a 50-year-old Indonesian citizen by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Banting, Selangor on January 24th. Four others were injured during the incident, accused of illegally encroaching into Malaysian waters. A day after the incident, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated that all five victims were attempting to leave Malaysia illegally. Meanwhile, the ministry urged for an investigation into the incident, particularly concerning allegations of excessive force by the APMM. \Migrant Care Executive Director Wahyu Susilo explained that this was not the first case of a death allegedly caused by Malaysian authorities. He added that Migrant Care has recorded at least 75 such deaths since 2005. Following pressure from the groups involved, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has pledged to address the issue with the Malaysian government. \According to reports from Astro Awani, the incident began during an APMM patrol at 3 am when their boat was allegedly rammed four times by a boat believed to be carrying undocumented Indonesian migrants. The Selangor police confirmed that there was provocation involving the group before the APMM fired shots. According to Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the investigation revealed that the APMM boat was rammed four times and two machetes were found in the boat occupied by the undocumented migrants. 'The police found that the boat carrying the undocumented migrants attempting to leave their country's waters collided with the APMM patrol boat. 'During the collision, there was believed to be provocation, causing the boat carrying the undocumented migrants to ram the APMM boat in an attempt to escape when ordered to stop. 'During the process, there was an incident of shooting where there was provocation from the party on the (top) boat carrying the undocumented migrants,' he said
