Nearly 100 Indonesian protesters, representing various human rights groups and labor unions, demonstrated against the January 24th shooting incident involving Indonesian citizens in Malaysian waters.

Nearly 100 Indonesian protesters threw eggs at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta yesterday. According to Berita Harian reports, the protesters consisted of various human rights groups and labor unions in Indonesia. This included members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Indonesian Labor Party involved in the egg-throwing incident towards the Malaysian Embassy building.

The act was a protest against the shooting incident involving Indonesian citizens on January 24th in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Banting, which resulted in one Indonesian citizen being killed and four others injured. The shooting incident occurred after the five Indonesian citizens were reported to have attempted to attack Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) officers. The shooting happened when the suspects' boat allegedly rammed the APMM boat four times before two out of the five suspects attempted to attack officers with machetes. The APMM fired shots towards the suspects' boat for safety reasons and self-defense. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement that the five Indonesian citizens were shot while trying to leave Malaysia, and the organization demanded a thorough investigation into the possibility of excessive force used by the APMM
