A heartwarming story from Malaysia has gone viral, showcasing the power of community and the kindness of strangers. Web3 entrepreneur Ben Choong shared on Facebook about how a group of individuals, including food delivery riders from Grab and foodpanda, came together to help find a missing girl with Down syndrome in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur. On Wednesday, February 12, Choong received an urgent message from his friend informing him that his sister, who has Down syndrome, had gone missing.
Without hesitation, Choong jumped into his car to assist in the search. Upon arriving at the scene, he and his friend discovered most shops were closed but they continued searching door to door. They were particularly concerned as it was Chap Goh Mei, the 15th night of Chinese New Year, with fireworks still lighting up the sky, knowing the girl was afraid of loud noises. Choong and his friend rented a scooter to expedite their search, joined by several others. After an hour of searching with no leads, they contacted the police and reached out to Grab and foodpanda, requesting their riders to spread the word within their networks. Thankfully, a GrabFood rider soon located the missing girl in Bukit Jalil. The story took an even more heartwarming turn when it was revealed that a kind passerby had given the distressed girl RM5, concerned about her hunger, before the Grab rider found her. The Grab rider, who only had RM30 on him that day, borrowed RM7 from someone else to ensure the girl could safely return home, despite the fare costing RM37. Choong and the girl's family expressed their deep gratitude towards the riders and strangers who had helped, emphasizing the unity and kindness displayed by Malaysians of all races.
