The Malaysian government will closely monitor prices and supply of goods during the Chinese New Year period to prevent price hikes and profiteering.

Malaysia 's Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will collaborate with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to closely monitor the supply and prices of goods during the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities. Minister Datuk Seri Armizan Mohd Ali announced that Ops Kesan , an operation launched on December 1st last year following civil servant salary adjustments, will continue.

This operation aims to combat profiteering through five key strategies, including gathering data on prices and service charges. The collected price data will be used to compare costs before and after the salary increases. Daily price monitoring of 480 essential items will serve as a guide for price movements. Minister Armizan stressed that the Malaysian Competition Commission will actively monitor and investigate any price increase announcements made by associations or groups. These investigations will be conducted under the Competition Act 2010, focusing on potential price-fixing cartels.Furthermore, the minister urged the public to report any unethical business practices to the ministry through various platforms, including WhatsApp (019-848 8000), a dedicated hotline (1-800-886-800), the ezAduKPDN mobile application, or the e-Aduan portal at http://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my. Minister Armizan also revealed that the maximum price scheme for the Chinese New Year period will be announced shortly. The ministry is currently finalizing the scheme, taking into account the supply of goods and engaging in discussions with industry stakeholders. This scheme, which will directly impact businesses and industries, requires careful planning to ensure benefits for all parties
