Malaysia's Producer Price Index (PPI) increased by 0.5% in December 2024, ending a three-month consecutive decline since September 2024, according to the Statistics Department of Malaysia (DOSM). The increase follows a 0.4% decrease in the previous month and was driven by mixed performance across major sectors, with a notable rise in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector. The agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector recorded a significant 23.8% increase in December, indicating a stronger momentum compared to 21.8% in November, fueled by a rise in the permanent crop planting index (41.9%). The mining sector contracted by 7.0%, a smaller decline compared to the negative 8.3% in the previous month, due to a 9.7% drop in the crude petroleum extraction index. The manufacturing sector showed a slight decrease of 1.0% (November 2024: -1.8%), with key subsectors such as the coke and refined petroleum products manufacturing falling by 15.5% and the computer, electronic, and optical product manufacturing declining by 1.5%. Conversely, the electricity and gas supply sector recorded a 0.9% increase, while the water supply sector continued its upward trend with a 6.7% rise.

Katanya, sektor perlombongan merosot 7.0 peratus, penurunan lebih kecil berbanding negatif 8.3 peratus pada bulan sebelumnya disebabkan oleh indeks pengekstrakan petroleum mentah yang turun 9.7 peratus. Mohd Uzir berkata, pada asas bulanan, IHPR Pengeluaran Tempatan terus meningkat 0.8 peratus pada Disember berbanding 1.4 peratus pada November.

“Sebaliknya, sektor perlombongan mencatat penurunan kecil 0.2 peratus , disebabkan oleh penurunan 2.4 peratus dalam indeks pengekstrakan gas asli. Tambahnya, indeks barang siap meningkat 0.5 peratus, dengan indeks kelengkapan modal meningkat 1.2 peratus, manakalan indeks bahan perantaraan, bekalan dan komponen naik perlahan 0.1 peratus, didorong oleh indeks bahan dan komponen untuk pembuatan .
