The Ministry of Health and MiSHA collaborate to address workplace lung health risks through policies, preventive programs, and worker awareness.

The Ministry of Health (MOH), in partnership with the Malaysia n Industrial Health and Safety Association (MiSHA), is set to launch the National Lung Health Initiative this year. This initiative aims to tackle the growing concern of workplace-related lung health risks. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasized the crucial role of this collaboration in addressing occupational health hazards linked to lung diseases.

During the MiSHA National Excellence Awards on OSH Principles of Prevention (OSH PoP) 2024, Dr Dzulkefly outlined the initiative's focus on introducing policies and preventive programs. These include establishing lung health guidelines, conducting awareness campaigns, and implementing regular health screenings for workers potentially exposed to hazardous materials. Dr Dzulkefly highlighted that workers in sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and heavy industries are frequently exposed to harmful substances like dust, chemicals, and air pollution. If these exposures are not effectively managed, they can contribute to chronic lung diseases, occupational asthma, or silicosis. He further stressed MiSHA's vital role in conveying the specific needs and challenges faced by the industrial sector to the Ministry of Health. Dr Dzulkefly expressed confidence that this collaboration will serve as a platform for enhancing worker well-being and proactively preventing workplace health risks
