The sudden shift to e-wallet payments for street parking in Kuala Lumpur has caused confusion and inconvenience for many users, particularly those reliant on the JomParking app which is no longer accepted.

The switch to payment via mobile applications or e-wallets for street parking in Kuala Lumpur as of October 1 has caught many by surprise, particularly the 330,000 registered users of the JomParking app. JomParking, a popular app for roadside parking payments, is not among the four approved mobile platforms designated by DBKL ( Kuala Lumpur City Hall) for collecting street parking fees. The authorized apps are EZ Smart Park, Flexiparking, Wilayah Parking, or MCash.

\This abrupt shift from ticket machines to e-wallet payments has raised concerns among a group of MPs who have urged DBKL to implement a grace period. They recommend avoiding summonses on vehicles parked by the roadside until users can transition smoothly. \MPs, including Hannah Yeoh (Segambut), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa), Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), and Teresa Kok (Seputeh), highlight that those unfamiliar with e-wallets will face difficulties due to the absence of physical payment options. Even those accustomed to digital payments will be impacted as JomParking is no longer functional for this purpose. \The MPs emphasize the need for JomParking users to migrate to one of the approved apps, requiring them to either transfer their existing balance or seek a refund. In 2016, there were an estimated 46,100 roadside parking lots, and by December last year, approximately 330,000 users were registered with JomParking. \They urge DBKL to address the remaining balance issue promptly, either by facilitating transfers to users' preferred e-wallets or by issuing refunds
