Johor police have successfully reduced road accidents during the Chinese New Year period. The six-day operation saw a significant decrease in accidents, fatalities, and traffic offences compared to the previous year.
Johor police have hailed their operations during this year's Chinese New Year period as a success, citing a significant decrease in road accidents . Authorities conducted a six-day operation from January 28 to February 2, observing a notable reduction in accident rates compared to the previous year. According to Johor police chief Comm M Kumar, the state saw a 52-case drop in accidents, representing a 4.5% decrease to 1,169 cases from 1,221 in the previous operation.
There were also five fewer serious accidents (eight) compared to the 13 reported earlier, a reduction of 62.5%. Overall deaths also fell from 16 to eight.Kumar emphasized that 40 individuals were arrested for various traffic offences, including drunk and dangerous driving. He highlighted that the operation focused not only on enforcement but also on educating road users, leading to increased awareness of road rules during this year's festive period. State police issued a total of 11,645 traffic summonses over the six days, a significant decrease from the 23,386 issued in the previous year. Speeding remained the most common offence, resulting in 3,963 summonses being issued.
