An investigation into a fire that engulfed an Air Busan plane at Gimhae International Airport in South Korea is facing delays due to the presence of a large amount of fuel and oxygen still on board. The fire, which occurred as the plane was preparing for departure to Hong Kong, was initially detected by a flight attendant and resulted in the evacuation of all passengers and crew. Authorities are assessing the risks before conducting a full investigation of the burned-out Airbus A321.

An investigation into a fire that engulfed an Air Busan plane at a South Korea n airport this week is being hampered by a significant amount of fuel and oxygen still present on board. Authorities conducted a risk management assessment before launching a full investigation of the burned-out Airbus A321 which remains on the tarmac at Gimhae International Airport in the southern city of Busan. The fire, which began around 10:15 p.m.

(1315 GMT) on Tuesday as the jet was preparing for departure to Hong Kong, was first observed by a flight attendant in an overhead luggage bin in the rear left-hand side of the plane. All 169 passengers and seven crew members were safely evacuated using emergency slides following the fire, with only a few minor injuries reported by Air Busan. This incident occurred a month after the deadliest air disaster in South Korean history, when a Jeju Air plane crashed on Muan Airport’s runway during an emergency belly landing. Tragically, the incident resulted in the loss of all but two of the 181 people on board.Air Busan's single-aisle, 17-year-old aircraft exhibits burned-out holes along the length of its fuselage roof. Thankfully, its wings and engines were unaffected by the fire, according to a transport ministry statement. However, the plane still contains approximately 35,900 lbs (16,280 kg) of jet fuel and other hazardous materials such as oxygen tanks, as stated by the transport ministry. Authorities are currently evaluating the necessity of offloading the fuel before the full investigation can commence. South Korea’s Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board is spearheading the investigation, collaborating with representatives from France’s BEA air accident investigation agency. France holds the designation as the state of design for Airbus aircraft.
