Lt Gen Datuk Arman Rumaizi Ahmad, a highly decorated military veteran, takes on the helm of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), bringing his extensive experience and leadership to the university.

Lt Gen Datuk Arman Rumaizi Ahmad, the former Chief of Staff of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia ( UPNM ), effective January 30. The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) announced that Arman Rumaizi holds a Master's degree in Social Science ( Defence Studies ) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, obtained in 2012.

Throughout his illustrious military career, he has served in several crucial roles, including Assistant Chief of Staff of Personnel Services and Commander of the Second Division of the Malaysian Infantry. He also served as a military advisor to the former Minister of Defence from 2014 to 2018. The MOHE expressed confidence in Arman Rumaizi's ability to lead and strengthen UPNM's governance. In a statement, the Ministry highlighted his extensive experience and strong leadership reputation, stating, 'With his extensive experience and strong leadership reputation, we are confident that Lt Gen Datuk Arman Rumaizi will play a pivotal role in leading and strengthening UPNM’s governance.' They further elaborated that his contributions would be particularly valuable in enhancing the organization's administration, advancing academic development, and promoting research in defence science and technology. The primary goal of these efforts is to nurture the nation's top talents, especially within the defence and national security sectors.Arman Rumaizi's appointment as the 8th vice-chancellor of UPNM follows the retirement of Lt Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad on January 29. Mardzuki Muhammad had held the position since June 19, 2023.
