A 63-year-old former engineer from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, lost RM10 million in a cryptocurrency investment scam after being lured by promises of high returns. He was attracted to the investment scheme after seeing an advertisement on social media in July. The scam involved two individuals who communicated with him via WhatsApp and provided instructions on how to invest. Between October and December last year, the victim made 29 transactions, transferring a total of RM9,474,310 to 11 different accounts. Believing he had made a profit of RM88 million, he attempted to withdraw his funds but was asked to pay an additional RM800,000. Realizing he had been scammed, he reported the incident to the police.

Mangsa kemudian membuat semakan dan mendapati telah mendapat keuntungan berjumlah RM88 juta daripada pelaburan tersebut, namun ketika hendak mengeluarkan wang berkenaan, dia diminta membuat bayaran tambahan sebanyak RM800,000.
