Chief Minister of the Northern Territory Eva Lawler has announced a 14-day youth curfew will be imposed on Alice Springs in a desperate measure to bring rampant crime to a halt.

Northern Territory Chief Minister Eva Lawler has announced a youth curfew and an additional 58 police officers to tackle the Alice Springs crime crisis. Picture: Sky News Australia Alice Springs currently has 23 additional police through Operation Grimmel which will be enhanced by the extra 58 officers.

"We will get that through the mechanism of the Territory Emergency Management Council, which does declare the emergency situation and will give us the lawful authority, to look at the curfew, to look at the geographical area and control that area for the safety of Territorians and the residents and business owners of Alice Springs."

Alice Springs Mayor Matt Paterson told Sky News Australia he'd had enough of the situation in Alice Springs, with police totally outnumbered.
