PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad advises against overspending at Ramadan bazaars and buying more than one can eat during the fasting month.

In his Ramadan video message on Sunday , the Prime Minister also said he hoped that fasting would not just be treated as a ritual, but also as a lesson to Muslims on the importance of self-restraint.

“I hope that this fasting month will not just be an act of worship but also a lesson for us on the importance of controlling our desires,” he said. “We consider fasting as an important act of worship in shaping our character because the fasting month teaches us to control ourselves from doing anything prohibited by Islam such as eating, but there are many other things that we must also observe.
