Detectives investigating fatal shooting in Bonita, second 'related' shooting in San Diego [Breaking]
A pair of shootings Sunday morning left a man dead in Bonita and a man injured in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood, authorities said.San Diego police arrested a driver — a possible suspect in one of the shootings — following a lengthy pursuit from the Jamacha-Lomita area that ended near Mission Bay, police said.Few details were available about the incidents, which were being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department and San Diego police.
In the first incident, a man was found mortally wounded in a shooting reported on Equitation Lane near Plaza Bonita Road just after 5:20 a.m. The call initially was reported as a reckless driving to the California Highway Patrol, said sheriff’s Lt. David Collins. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died, Collins said.
About three hours later, San Diego police received a call from a man who said he had been shot in the arm with shotgun pellets near the intersection of Cardiff and San Vicente streets in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood. The man called police just before 8:30 a.m. and reported that the shooter had driven away.
Police officers responding to the call pursued a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup until the driver crashed on East Mission Bay Drive south of Clairemont Drive, about 20 miles from the shooting scene, said San Diego police Officer Sarah Foster. The driver was taken into custody.
