Residents of PPR Desa Rejang are facing safety concerns and daily disruptions due to the ongoing delay in the replacement of lifts, prompting them to seek Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's intervention.
Residents of Desa Rejang People's Housing Project (PPR) are appealing for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's intervention to resolve the ongoing delay in the replacement of lifts, which has lasted for 16 days. Deputy Chairman of the Community Welfare Movement, Mustaffa Kamal Syaripuddin, expressed disappointment over the contractor Fuji DNDT's failure to complete the lift replacement project according to the scheduled deadline of November 15th.
According to him, the delay not only causes daily difficulties but also threatens the safety of residents who are forced to use old lifts that are frequently broken and unsafe. 'In some blocks, like Block D, the lift is completely out of service. Last week, the lift plunged from the ninth floor due to a nearly severed cable, forcing residents to climb stairs all the way to the 18th floor. 'Senior citizens, people with disabilities (OKU), pregnant women, and children are among the most affected by this situation. 'Traders are also experiencing losses because their business operations are disrupted,' he said when met by reporters at Block D, PPR Desa Rejang, here today. PPR Desa Rejang has 12 blocks with approximately 18,000 residents from various socioeconomic backgrounds, including senior citizens, OKU, children, and low-income families who rely on basic amenities like lifts for their daily activities. Previously, a meeting was held with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Fuji DNDT, and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) on December 18th. At the meeting, Fuji DNDT stated that 13 out of 18 new lifts have been installed and are awaiting safety assessment by JKKP. However, Mustaffa Kamal said that the assessment process has been delayed due to the contractor's delay in providing the necessary documents
