The Seremban City Council took drastic action by removing doors from a low-cost housing project unit inhabited by delinquent tenants with rental arrears exceeding RM15,000.
The Seremban City Council (MBS) took drastic action by removing three doors from a low-cost housing project ( PPR ) unit inhabited by delinquent tenants recently. In a Facebook statement, Seremban Mayor, Datuk Masri Razali, said the action was taken against tenants with rental arrears exceeding RM15,000.
The arrears collection operation was conducted at Pangsapuri Rakyat Seri Perdana Paroi on December 12th, involving local council members, MBS officers from the Valuation and Property Management Department, the Legal and Enforcement Department, and the Maintenance Department. It was also assisted by police officers from the Paroi Police Station. Further elaborating, Masri stated that MBS continuously provides opportunities and assistance through various methods to enable tenants with outstanding payments to settle their rent. However, MBS remains firm in implementing its promise to tenants with arrears exceeding RM15,000 to settle their outstanding payments in installments starting January last year. 'However, tenants still failed to comply with the agreement, prompting MBS to issue a Termination Notice through a letter dated November 30th,' he said. Although MBS still allows tenants with arrears to temporarily reside in their homes, MBS has taken the step of removing all doors from the involved units to prompt immediate payment of arrears. Out of the involved tenants, 2 have settled their outstanding payments amounting to RM23,560.00 to continue their tenancy in the PPR
