Malaysia is set to revamp its Chinese new villages into exciting tourist destinations, leveraging their unique history, culture, and charm for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Chinese new villages in Malaysia are being developed as a new tourism product in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026. According to Khoo Poay Tiong, the chairman of the Malaysian Chinese New Village Secretariat, there are 613 Chinese new villages across the country, each with its own distinct history, arts, and culture. The Madani government aims to upgrade infrastructure in all these villages and enhance their appeal to make them attractive tourist destinations.
Khoo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kota Melaka, explained that the infrastructure upgrades are being funded by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). He emphasized that these developments will stimulate the local economy and create opportunities for residents to increase their income.In addition to infrastructure improvements, other initiatives are underway to promote Chinese new villages as tourism destinations. These include a nationwide Chinese New Year village decoration competition currently in progress. Khoo believes that by developing these villages as tourist spots, Malaysia can showcase its rich cultural heritage and attract more visitors
