Unknown individuals caused widespread damage in a Kuching residential area, smashing car windscreens and setting a house ablaze. The incident has reignited fears of neighborhood safety and the loss of community vigilance.
A residential area near Jalan Depot in Kuching was targeted by unknown individuals in a series of destructive acts early yesterday morning. According to a resident who identifies as Jeffrey Sheffrie on Facebook, at least two perpetrators were involved in the rampage, which included damaging the windscreens of multiple vehicles parked along the road. They also hurled Molotov cocktails into the compound of a house, igniting the front area of the property and a car.
Sheffrie stated that the house fire was contained to the front portion and was quickly extinguished by firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department who arrived around 3 am. He speculated that the attacks may have stemmed from a personal vendetta or a grudge against the neighborhood, expressing concern about the safety of residents. He lamented the loss of the community spirit that once existed, noting that no one seemed willing to take turns keeping watch, leaving the neighborhood vulnerable. Sheffrie expressed hope that the police, who have been informed about the incident, would quickly apprehend the perpetrators to prevent further acts of violence. When contacted, Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that he would be issuing a formal statement regarding the incident soon
