Gerald Goh, an artist from Kuching, repainted a cat statue in Bulatan Padungan, giving it a 'True Blue Vision' with blue eyes and a smiling mouth. The act was met with praise from locals who appreciate the improved aesthetic.
Follow the TRPbm Telegram channel for the latest and most relevant updates! Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak, is famous for several iconic cat statues scattered throughout the city. One of the most famous cat statues in the city is a group of cats in front of North City Hall. While most of these statues appear cute, some people find certain ones to be 'off'. Recently, artist Gerald Goh went viral after repainting the face of a cat statue located at Bulatan Padungan in the capital city.
This was shared by Facebook user Fook Liew through a post in the Kuching – Then and Now group. Goh told Fook that he decided to touch up the cat's face because he couldn't stand looking at its 'fierce' eyes. 'It's even worse, thinking about a pair of eyes staring at the camera, tourists,' he explained. So, Goh voluntarily repainted the cat's eyes and painted a smiling mouth on it. He also explained that the cat statue's eyes were painted blue because he wanted to give it a 'True Blue Vision', a symbol of hope for the development of Kuching and Sarawak as a whole. Goh's creativity was met with praise from many who felt happier seeing the 'new' face of the cat statue at Bulatan Padungan. They thanked Goh for making the cat statue look more radiant with its shining eyes like a real cat. Some even said the cat's eyes previously looked frightening, like the giant statues in the Squid Game series. Through social media sharing, it is also understood that the cat's eyes have been repainted several times, including blue, red, and black and white
