TNB Electron and BHPetrol partner to launch 200kW DC fast chargers, enhancing EV accessibility and long-distance travel capabilities in Malaysia.

TNB Electron and BHPetrol have joined forces to boost Malaysia's electric vehicle (EV) adoption by expanding the country's charging infrastructure. The collaboration kicked off with the launch of a 200kW DC fast charger at the BHPetrol Jalan Genting Klang 1 station, marking a significant step towards making EVs more accessible to Malaysian drivers. Leveraging BHPetrol's extensive network of 400 retail locations, TNB Electron aims to provide convenient charging options for EV users nationwide.

This partnership goes beyond a single charging station. Two more 200kW TNB Electron high-powered charging stations are in the pipeline, strategically located at the Karak and R&R Ladang Bikam highway rest areas. These stations will be equipped with one charging unit featuring two CCS2 nozzles, enabling two EVs to charge simultaneously. This expansion will address the growing need for long-distance EV travel, reducing range anxiety among Malaysian EV drivers. BHPetrol CEO Ir. Azizul Azily Ahmad emphasized the importance of such collaborations in shaping Malaysia's EV future, stating that providing fast and reliable EV charging infrastructure is crucial for supporting the transition towards cleaner mobility. Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Bin Megat Hassan, President and CEO of TNB, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strategic significance of combining the expertise of both parties to create a more extensive and accessible EV charging network. The introduction of high-powered 200kW chargers will significantly reduce charging times for compatible EVs, allowing them to gain substantial range in a shorter period. This, coupled with the ability to charge multiple vehicles simultaneously, will make long-distance EV travel more practical and encourage wider EV adoption in Malaysia. The collaboration between TNB Electron and BHPetrol represents a crucial step towards achieving Malaysia's net-zero carbon goals by 2050 and building a future-ready EV infrastructure
