Malaysia's 1MDB task force remains undeterred by the dissolution of the US Department of Justice unit that previously investigated the 1MDB scandal. The task force, led by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, emphasizes that its efforts to recover stolen assets will continue both within the US and in other jurisdictions.

The 1 Malaysia Development Berhad ( 1MDB ) task force will continue its efforts to recover assets linked to the 1MDB scandal, despite the dissolution of the United States Department of Justice ( DOJ ) unit that previously played a significant role in investigating the case.

Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, the chairperson of the 1MDB task force, stated that the closure of the DOJ's Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative (KARI) and Task Force Klepto Capture holds little impact on Malaysia's ongoing recovery efforts. He emphasized that Malaysia's asset recovery process extends beyond the United States to countries like Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Johari also highlighted that Goldman Sachs, a key player in the 1MDB scandal, is yet to fully settle its obligations to Malaysia in the US. The minister of plantation industries and commodities explained that the matter regarding Goldman Sachs' outstanding payment is currently under arbitration. He stated that although the DOJ unit's closure is a development, Malaysia will proceed with its recovery efforts as planned.Johari pointed out a dispute regarding the execution agreement that Goldman Sachs signed with the Malaysian government. According to him, Goldman Sachs has only paid US$2.5 billion out of the agreed US$4.5 billion. Therefore, Malaysia will continue to pursue the remaining US$2 billion through the ongoing arbitration process. The task force remains committed to recovering all assets linked to the 1MDB scandal, regardless of the DOJ unit's dissolution
