Hamzah Zainudin's mother-in-law dies in house fire

Maido, a restaurant in Lima, Peru, has been named No.1 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list.

IPOH : The mother-in-law of Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was killed in a house fire at Kampung Sungai Rapat near here on Thursday night. The 84-year-old senior citizen, identified as Salmiah Nyak Matt , was found unconscious in a room on the lower floor of the double-storey house.

Perak Fire and Rescue department director Sayani Saidon said the victim’s 83-year-old husband, Abdul Ghani Ngah, also suffered breathing difficulties and was sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.As firemen arrived at the scene, 80% of the room was destroyed by the fire."Her husband, who was on the top floor, was rushed to the hospital," she said in a statement on June 20. Sayani said four other victims, aged between 18 and 49, who were in the room were rescued and did not sustain any injuries. Firefighting efforts were carried out using a 200-foot-long hose line with a single water jet from the engine’s tank until the fire was completely extinguished. "The fire was successfully brought under control at 9.41pm, and the operation was fully concluded at 2.02am," she said.
